| Abstract;Clinical pathways have become popular tools to improve the medical care. In development and implementation of clinical pathways, medical staff has to note that they are open to public. Patients are able to estimate the differences of care plan among some hospitals and confirm whether they are in accord with the guidelines and the scientific evidences or not. Several facts worthy of mention in development of clinical pathways for orthopedic surgery are listed in this paper. Preoperative surgical ste care and anti-biotic administration should be followed to the guideline. Assessments of postoperative complications, such as deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or nerve injury as a result of inadequate casting or braces are of significance in orthopedic patients. They are to he listed in clinical pathway. Medical staff has to note that clinical pathway is not completely critical method, and that the evaluation of assessments and variances is available to improve the care program listed in it. For medical staff it is especially important to consider whether a care plan listed in the clinical pathway is to be performed or not, against the physical states. Clinical pathway is not a bible and is capable of change according to the frequent evaluation. (author abst.) |
