Abstract; This paper describes 3-D imaging technology and its development trend for achieving practical 3-D television into reality. Various 3-D imaging methods are explained. One method utilizing the difference between two eye views enables image production of high quality using simple equipment, while there arise problems of eye fatigue, as well as degraded stereoscopic effect. Another method using spatial image reproduction is theoretically ideal, but so far has limitations in moving image quality because of lacking performance in currently available devices. The paper also describes issues necessary for future study such as 3-D information coding.
