Abstract;This paper describes study status of the "information barrier-free" technology in broadcasting, aiming at improved broadcast services for visual/auditory handicapped and/or aged persons. It includes speech explanation of program contents, enlarged display, and development of a tactile display unit for the visually handicapped, subtitles display, speech speed conversion, speech emphasis for the auditory handicapped, and prototypes of a TV remote controller for the aged persons. It also mentions future introduction of universal design in broadcasting systems.
