| Abstract; We evaluated 24 eyes of white cataract that received trypan blue capsule staining adjunct to phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens implantation. Another series of 24 eyes of hard cataract without trypan blue staining served as control. Both groups received soft shell technique. Success rate of continuous curvilinear capsulorrhexis(CCC) was 79% in the former group and 100% in the control. The postoperative visual acuity was the same in both groups. The intraocular pressure showed a transient rise on day 2 of surgery in both groups. The corneal endothelial cells decreased by 24.1% in the former and by 20.4% in the control, with no significant difference between both groups. There were no complications in eyes receiving trypan blue capsule staining during 12 months after surgery. The finding shows the safety and usefulness of trypan blue capsule staining in cataract surgery. (author abst.) |
