Abstract;Purpose: To evaluate the effect of LASIK for hyperopia with accommodative esotropia. Cases: Four cases of hyperopia with accommodative esotropia, comprising 1 male and 3 females. The ages ranged from 22 to 30 years. All had asthenopia. Three had been wearing eyeglasses. The uncorrected visual acuity for near averaged 0.3. The spherical equivalent refraction averaged +5.36.+-.1.43 diopters. The prism cover test showed 10.TRIAGL. to 45.TRIAGL. of esodeviation for near. Results: After LASIK, the uncorrected visual acuity for near averaged 1.0. The spherical equivalent refraction averaged +0.25.+-.1.16 diopters. The prism cover test showed 0.TRIAGL. to 8.TRIAGL. of esodeviation for near. All the cases showed improved uncorrected visual acuity for near, improved horizontal eye position, and became free of eyeglasses. Conclusion: LASIK was effective for accommodative esotropia. Additional treatment was needed when vertical strabismus was present. (author abst.)
