Abstract;As the postoperative analgesic method for operations in the upper abdomen, intrarectal, intramuscular and intravenous injections of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug or an opioid were described in addition to PCA (patient controlled analgesic method). Moreover, epidural analgesic method with local anesthesic and/or opioid, PCEA, costal nerve block was reviewed and merits and demerits of these methods were described. A lowering of respiratory functions, specially to pay attention after upper abdominal operation, and issues related to postoperative analgesic treatment were described.
