| Abstract;Efficacy of daily oral treatment with epalrestat was investigated. Thirty patients with muscle cramp associated to lumbar spinal canal stenosis were given with epalrestat at 150 mg/day. For the group with no complication of diabetes, muscle cramp disappeared in 16 of 25 patients, whereas for the group complicated with diabetes, muscle cramp disappeared in 4 of 25. The symptoms were significantly improved in 84% of all subjects. However, neither of severe side effects not complication was found. Present results suggest that epalrestat is effective for either patient with or without complication of diabetes. |
