Abstract; The high usefulness has been confirmed by administering ketamine for the herpes zoster pain due to nerve injury and neurogenic pain.Since the postoperative intercostal neuralgia was also considered to be a kind of nerve injury, the ketamine therapy was tried in addition to the treatments with the conventional nerve block and the oral drugs. It was performed in 41 cases of the intercostal neuralgia originated from the intercostal nerve damage caused by the thoracotomy operation.Although the thoracic sympathetic ganglion block had been required in many cases for treatment of the postoperative intercostal nerve damage, the sympathetic nerve block became significantly unnecessary due to the joint use of ketamine. The frequency of the treatments requiring it was also low.
