Abstract; To determine the efficacy and safety of two sunscreen products that are designed to have low-stimulus, hypoallergenic characteristics and offer ease and comfort of use at application, an investigation on their use was carried out over a 4-week observation period in photosensitive dermatoses patients. One was Sunscreen C (SPF50+ and PA+++) containing an ultraviolet absorbent (2-ethyl-hexyl p-methoxycinnamate), and the other was Sunscreen N (SPF45 and PA+++) containing no ultraviolet absorbent. The total number of subjects was 71, with 64 analyzed for safety and 58 analyzed for efficacy. "Slightly effective" or better was reported by 42 subjects (97.7%) for Sunscreen C, and by 15 subjects (100%) for Sunscreen N. As for the safety evaluation, "Safe" or "Nearly safe" was reported by 45 (93.8%) for Sunscreen C, and "Safe" was reported by 16 (100%) for Sunscreen N. In the questionnaire answers, high scores were obtained with respect to "Easily spread" and "No chalky appearance of the product on the skin". These results confirm that both sunscreen products are highly safe, high photoprotective, and are able to be applied easily and comfortably at use, and are useful for preventing recurrence of photosensitive dermatoses.
