Abstract;Medical staffs and patients of ophthalmic field generally have recognition that postoperative pains is not so severe. However, the pain of anterior epithelium of the cornea caused by surgical treatments is generally strong. In addition, a transient pain due to an increase of intraocular pressure is also strong. For postoperative pains, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or narcotic analgesic is prescribed in general. For patients with increased intraocular pressure, the treatment to reduce the pressure would produce analgesic effects. Since the elderly is often included in the patients of this field, selection of analgesic drug should be made taking consideration of its complication.
