Abstract;This paper describes NTT's vision and approach in research and development towards the full-scale broadband ubiquitous era that will be brought about by optics in the next five years. This vision has been presented in November, 2002, aiming to configure a 'resonant' communication network environment employing optics to cope with increasing needs to the full-scale broadband communication. Targeted technologies include advanced collaboration, a next-generation network archtechture, language processing for overcoming language barriers, etc.
