Abstract;This paper reviews a development history of virtual machine function for the provision of software development environment in the DIPS computer system developed by the former NTTPC. The background of this virtual machine system development and the feature of the system are shown. One computer was acted as plural computer systems virtually, and plural software systems could be operated concurrently in parallel. A VM monitor was developed for this purpose, and improved efficiency was attained in program debugging.
