Abstract;Efficacy of intravenous administration of ketamine and midazolam immediately before epidural cavity puncture and subarachnoid cavity puncture was evaluated. A total of 339 patients classified into ASA type 1 or 2 who were scheduled to receive a surgery under general anesthesia in combination with epidural one or spino-subarachnoid anesthesia in combination with epidural one were used as the subjects. The analgesic effects were significantly higher in the patients who received ketamine or midazolam alone, or the both than those given no anesthetic.
