| Abstract; For the purpose of improving lighting quality for elderly persons in corridor areas, staircases and entry halls, for emergency evacuation, and for reading, a standard for the required illuminance is proposed as a result of an analysis based on the existing reports on psychological evaluation tests in actual environments and visual characteristics data. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The minimum illuminance level for walking with peace of mind is 1 lx or higher. (2) The illuminance required for emergency evacuation is 10 lx or higher. (3) The illuminance required for avoiding inconveniences to daily life is 50 lx or higher. (4) The surface illuminance required for reading newspapers is 500 - 2500 lx supplied with a task-specific light such as a lighting stand in addition to room lighting. (author abst.) |
