Abstract; For the purpose of determining a counter height that produces less physical stress to the user, a biomechanical calculation formula is proposed as a result of evaluating posture analysis and muscular potential analysis conducted along with research for physical feature values closely correlated with an ideal counter height. Work in the kitchen requires the same standing posture for a certain period of time every day, thus producing significant physical stress during household work. An inappropriate counter height is said to increase a user's physical stress and potentially cause a stiff neck or a backache. Among the many types of stress caused by working in the kitchen, we selected the stress related to the counter height, then clarified the relationship between the counter height and the amount of the physical stress from a biomechanical point of view, and extracted the most appropriate counter height to reduce physical stress. The results indicate that the counter height with the least amount of stress is "(Human height)/2 + 5 - 10 cm", slightly higher than the previously used standard of "(Human height)/2 + 5 cm".
