Abstract;In the process of developing a flexible actuator wearable by an elderly person without bodily stresses for the purpose of power-assistance or rehabilitation, a "Meshed SMA artificial muscle" has been devised by forming shape memory alloy (SMA) wires in a meshed fashion to obtain flexible elongation and noise-free operation not achievable with a motor-driven device. The meshed SMA artificial muscle prototype developed has a knit structure of 85 mm in width and 60 mm in length and is capable of generating a maximum force of 50 MPa and a maximum elongation of 30%.
