Abstract; The subject in the title was outlined. It was described that the retrieval of total bile acid (TBA) and biliary enzyme was useful for diagnosis and follow-up of the cholestasis failure. It was explained that measurements of alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase, leucine amino-peptidase, etc. were necessary for the evaluation of the disease state. Features of the above described enzyme were explained. Finally, the clinical significance of TBA measurement was explained.
