Abstract;Several radiographic features of the knee joint were compared between 20 cases of discoid lateral meniscus and 20 cases of the semilunar lateral meniscus in order to clarify whether the plain radiogram could discriminate between discoid and semilunar menisci. The features investigated in this study were as follows and five parameters for each features were measured: 1) absence of anterior notch of the lateral femoral condyle, 2) widening of the lateral joint space, 3) hypoplasia of the lateral femoral condyle, 4) a suquared off lateral femoral condyle, 5) cupping of the lateral tibial plateau. The absence of anterior notch of the lateral femoral condyle and planarization of lateral tibial plateau was seen at significantly higher rate in the adult lateral discoid meniscus, whereas any significant difference was not found in child and adolescent knee joint between discoid and semilunar menisci.
