| Abstract;Massive osteolysis is a rare condition in which spontaneous and progressive resorption of bone occurs. We report a case of the condition, which is categorized in the multicentric Gorham's massive osteolysis. Histological examination of the biopsy specimen revealed granulation tissue with distinct vascularization and reactive cell infiltration. The number of osteoclasts was not increased. The bone destruction was progressive and resisted against several treatments including rediotherapy, ultrasound therapy and administration of steroid, bisphosphonate and interferon .GAMMA.. The patient died of air-way obstruction due to increasing granulation tissue arising from the mandibula. (author abst.) |
