Abstract;This paper describes status on coping with issues for advanced use of an electronic tag in Japan, and trends on the use of portable telephone including value-added services such as a moving image mail and a picture phone. With regard to the electronic tag, basic structure, usage, history, and possible introduction of new frequencies for the electronic tag are shown. Also, progress on the implementation of the third-generation mobile communication system (IMT-2000) and studies on its advanced use are described.
