Abstract; The seroprevalence against Leptospira in parturient sows with birth and stillbirth in Okayama Prefecture and pig sera obtained in slaughter house in Ibaraki Prefecture was investigated. In Okayama Prefecture, premature birth and stillbirth were found and the antibody to L. australis strain Akiyami C were confirmed at the rate of 7/11. The antibody to L. icterohaemorrhagiae strain RGA were confirmed at the rate of 2 out of 11 sows. The antibodies to L. copenhageni strain M20 and L. canicola strain Hond Utrecht IV were confirmed at the rate of 1/11 and 1/11, respectively. Furthermore, 183 sera obtained from gilt, sow and growing pig reared in the Prefecture were used for serological survey to leptopiras. The results showed that the antibodies to L. australis strain Akiyami C, L. icterohaemorrhagiae strain RGA, L. copenhageni strain M20, L. canicola strain Hond Utrecht IV, L. pomona strain Pomona, L. hardjo strain Hardjoprajitno, and L. hebdomadis strain Akiyami B were 47/183, 31/183, 47/183, 7/183, 12/183, 28/183, and 1/183, respectively(total number of positive and weak positive reactions was shown in this results). In Ibaraki Prefecture, the antibodies to L. australis strain Akiyami C, L. australis strain Ballico, L. cophnhageni strain M20, L. icterohaemorrhagiae strain RGA, L. australis strain Akiyami A and L. canicola strain Hond Utrecht IV were 43/105, 32/105, 10/105, 8/105, and 13/105, respectively. On the other hand, the stock condition in liquid nitrate were examined using 10% glycerol and mistdesicas and the growth of the stored leptospiras were compared between two stock solutions. The results demonstrated that the 10% glycerol gave more good growth for leptospiras. (author abst.)
