| Abstract; The president of Cisco Systems K.K., a Japanese subsidiary company under a US parent talks about Japan and Japanese technologies based on his experience in international business. Japan used to have little interest in Internet and the international trend about it, but after finding its importance, Japan advanced national policies such as "e-Japan". Currently, the number of subscribers to broadband service is over 12 millions and its cost is about a fifteenth of that in US. But new technical innovation is still required in order to construct future infrastructure. Taking America for instance, it is said that investment in IT correlates with improvement in productivity with 99% completeness, and then Japan should utilize IT much more. Japanese IT is far ahead of the rest of world in the mobile phone and its related fields. But in aspect of security, Japan is unbelievably behind the times. In addition, Japan lacks of high class IT network engineers. In order to develop internationally, Japan should turn out many clear-sighted IT engineers with first class culture. |
