| Abstract;A 78-year-old woman was referred to us for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in both eyes. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.6 right and 0.2 left. Her right eye showed multiple soft drusen. Her left eye had exudative AMD with retinal hemorrhage and detachment of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). When seen 22 months later, her right eye had RPE detachment and exudative lesions. Angiographic studies showed hyperfluorescence originating from retinal vessels, leading to the diagnosis of Stage 2 retinal angiomatous proliferation (RAP). This case illustrates that RAP may progress rather rapidly and that this feature may explain the paucity of reported cases of Stage 1 RAP in Japan. (author abst.) |
