Abstract;Plaque cleaning and dental surgery under general anesthesia with isoflurane were performed to treat severe periodontal diseases in 10 old (ages 11-17) dogs. Anorexia, body weight loss and such periodontal conditions as inflammation, bleeding and discharge improved more in the surgery than in the control group. Considering antimicrobial susceptibility to isolated bacteria and clinical progress, a combination of antibiotics is more effective for treatment of severe periodontal disease. (author abst.)
