| Abstract;Shiseido R&D division has tried to establish various type of relation-ship with many academic institutions in the field of cosmetics & fragrances science. Such relationship includes "one-to-one" collaboration with an academic investigator, "exclusive partnership" with a large research group or laboratories, and "consortium" type collaboration between the company and multiple investigators of different institutions who share common research interest or target. While one-to-one type is often target oriented with specific application in mind, the objective of the latter two are rather broad, including basic studies with expectation for innovative ideas and findings. In either case, the most important component for success would be mutual understandings based on person-to-person communications between academia and industry. (author abst.) |
