| Abstract; We participate in The Project for Development of a Technological Infrastructure for Industrial Bioprocesses on R&D of New Industrial Science and Technology Frontiers by Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, in collaborations with Professors Ogasawara (Nara Institute of Science and Technology), Yamane (University of Tsukuba) and Sekiguchi (Shinshu University). Our role in the project is to construct novel host cells that enable mass production of useful proteins at high efficiency by extensive modification of the genome structure of Bacillus subtilis. Now, we are going to carry out functional analyses of 4106 genes in B. subtilis genome for distinction of genes necessary or unnecessary for production of proteins and to develop efficient technologies for genome modification. Deleting unnecessary genes from the genome and enhancing expression of necessary genes, we will construct novel host cells, Minimum Genome Factory (MGF), specialized in proteins production.
