| Abstract;A new legislation in Japan concerning university born technology transfer came into effect in May of 1998. Shortly after it, the bioventure Effector Cell Institute (ECI) was established in June of 1999. ECI's mission is to develop novel effective drugs for illnesses like cancer and inflammatory diseases throuth the regulation of cellular chemotaxis. ECI's business model includes patent protection, joint research, governmental subsidies and business alliances. ECI's projects are the selling of a novel optical device for cell chemotaxis analysis (EZ-TAXIScan), chemotaxis assay insourcing services offered jointly with Hitachi Group, and cancer metastasis diagnosis research, among others, In addition, I briefly discuss here the importance of management and business financing in the survival of venture companies.
