Abstract; We describe 5 patients who developed cystoid macular edema (CME) following the use of topical latanoprost with glaucoma and ocular hypertension, including fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT). All had undergone cataract surgery; 4 were without posterior lens capsule. Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) did not occur in 4 patients; thick posterior hyaloid membranes were observed on OCT image in 2 cases. CME resolved in 4 patients at from 3 to 6 weeks after diclofenac was initiated in place of latanoprost, but 1 patient needed vitrectomy. CME is a potential complication of latanoprost therapy, though we have no idea how it develops. Further observations are needed regarding use of topical latanoprost in patients with broken posterior lens capsule or without PVD, even a long time after cataract surgery. (author abst.)
