Abstract;Various psychological test batteries were used to evaluate the use of continuous facilitative assistance begun at an early stage of life for children with Asperger syndrome as to whether it favorably modifies child development. Nine boys with Asperger syndrome were divided in two groups based on whether they received this type of assistance (Group A) or not (Group B). Results of the WISC-III, Rorschach, SCT, and Baum tests were the bases for the psychological evaluations. The average age at the time of evaluation was 12 years, 8 months old (Group A) and 13 years, 3 months old (Group B). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of IQ. In the Rorschach test, those in group A appeared to have usual cognition and less thinking disturbance. SCT results suggested that those in group A had better attitudes toward personal communications and self-image. Although in the Baum test there was no difference regarding the constituent parts of the trees drawn in either group those in Group A drew trees wore carefully. These findings suggest that to achieve a favorable outcome for children with Asperger syndrome continuous facilitative assistance is important. (author abst.)
