| Abstract;A male student who suffered persistent reflux esophagitis (psychosomatic disease) for more than 8 years showed remarkable improvement after entering a university and frequenting its health care center. His symptoms of heartburn, nausea, and sniveling appeared, without his eating, during a hypnotic treatment session, after which these esophagitis symptoms disappeared. Improvement is considered to be related to his making up his mind to deal with his mental problem and to deal with his mental problem and to "a change in self-recognition with an image of independence". His ego state against an object of fear has since changed from passive to active. Also discussed as a factor in his improvement is the university and its health care center having provided a holding environment for his psychological development. (author abst.) |
