| Abstract; The vitamin C derivative of the "Second Generation"-Physiological properties of a newly developed cosmetic ingredient, sodium L-ascorbyl 2-phosphate 6-palmitate (APPS) were evaluated. In a series of experiments using cultured cells and skin APPS exhibited a highly improved ascorbate (AsA) delivery to dermis compared to conventional AsA derivatives including sodium L-ascorbyl 2-phosphate (APS) and L-ascorbyl 2-glucoside (AG), quite supposedly thanks to its increased hydrophobicity. This AsA-enriching capability reflected on many cosmetological benefits; an outstanding enhancement of dermal collagen synthesis in vitro and in vivo, a quick quenching of UV-induced free radicals, and a inhibition of melanoma B16-derived tyrosinase system. Those findings suggest that APPS is suitable for the active ingredient of cosmetic products for anti-aging, anti-oxidative stress, and UV-care. (author abst.) |
