| Abstract;A case of MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma in bilateral palpebral conjunctiva is reported. The patient, a 30-year-old female who had complained of itching and lid swelling in both eyes, had been treated with eyedrops by a local practitioner. She was referred to us for refractory allergic conjunctivitis. Bilateral conjunctival tumor was suspected; lesions were resected for pathological examination. Massive small lymphocytes infiltration, with occasional Dutcher bodies, was observed. Since B cell monoclonality was ascertained immunohistochemically; the diagnosis was confirmed as MALT lymphoma. The patient received radiation with 40 Gy electron beam to her right eye and cryotherapy to the lesion of her left conjunctiva, resulting in no recurrence, metastasis or side effects, other than mild symblepharon in her right eye. In refractory conjunctival inflammation with swelling, lymphoma should be suspected, even in bilateral cases. (author abst.) |
