Abstract; We measured retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in 137 eyes of normal subjects using the Optical Coherence Tomography 3000 (OCT3). The average RNFL thickness (micrometers) in each quadrant was: superior: 127.1; inferior: 126.6; nasal: 75.5 and temporal: 80.4; the average for all quadrants (Avg. Thickness) was 102.4. Although there was gradual decrease with increasing degree of myopia, Avg. Thickness showed no significant correlation with age. Only the temporal quadrant showed a decrease with age bordering on the forties. (author abst.)
