| Abstract; We experienced anesthetic management for a patient with allergies to multiple drugs. A 52-year-old woman underwent abdominal total hysterectomy for treatment of myoma uteri. After intramuscular administration of midazolam for premedication, the patient complained of discomfort, and skin rashes and erythema appeared. The elective operation was postponed. Intradermal skin tests using tetracaine, lidocaine (with and without additives), thiamylal, vecuronium, succinylcholine, droperidol, midazolam, pentazocine, ephedrine and saline were carried out two weeks later. The results of tests were positive for all drugs except vecuronium, lidocaine without additives, ephedrine and saline. Two weeks later, the operation was uneventfully performed under epidural anesthesia using lidocaine without additives. Consideration should be given to the possibility of a patient with an allergy to some drugs having allergies to other drugs. (author abst.) |
