Abstract;Conspicuous pores are one of the most frequent skin problems for women of various ages. We examined the characteristics of the pore and found that it formed a cone shaped hollow, which had many nucleated cells, a sign of parakeratosis. A study on the relationship between the degree of conspicuous pores and the skin condition revealed that females with conspicuous pores had a high transepidermal water loss (TEWL) value, and a high skin sebum content especially unsaturated fatty acids. Experimental application of oleic acid, one of unsaturated fatty acids, to the forehead of humans promoted parakeratosis and increased the TEWL value. In addition, POE (polyoxyethylene)/POP (polyoxypropylene)-14/7 dimethyl ether was found to be effective in improving the parakeratosis caused by oleic acid, and to improve skin roughness. Application of the component containing POE/POP-14/7 dimethyl ether lead to the improvement of skin texture and parakeratosis on human cheek. (author abst.)
