| Abstract;Sebaceous follicle, which produce sebum, have large and multilobulated sebaceous glands, and hollow pore on human cheek. Because of its unique structure, the duct and sebaceous glands have been well observed. However, the epidermal structure around the opening of sebaceous follicle has not been observed yet. We observed defined area around the opening of sebaceous follicles on cheek non-invasively by using in vivo confocal microscope. The epidermis around the sebaceous follicle has numerous and elongated rete ridges, which reaches a depth of 200 micrometer or more. This structure has not observed on vellus follicles, which suggests this epidermal structure is specific to sebaceous follicles and may be caused by the sebum secreted from sebaceous glands.
