Abstract;Questionnaire investigation to assess the food consumption habits and health was carried out. The subjects of the study were university students in Hyogo, Nara, and Okayama prefectures, aged 19 to 24 (329 males, 406 females). 1) Most of the subjects were interested in health, and their source of information were TV and radio. However, for male students the interest for "playing" and "romance", for female students the interest for "beauty and fashion" and "playing" were stronger than health issues. 2) Foods that the subjects were consuming consciously for their health were "dairy products", and vegetables including "green and yellow vegetables". Health food was consumed as "to supplement insufficient nutrition" but the frequency of consumption was low. 3) Important habits for health were "hours of sleep" and "balance of nutrition". "Exercise" was not considered important, and there were 43% of females who "do not exercise". 4) Eating outs were mainly for lunch and dinner. There was a difference in the preference of eating outs, where male chose "western food in set" and female chose "single plate western food". 5) Those who are interested in health were more aware of their daily meals, are actively seeking new information, and have high self evaluation for their meals. Those who have higher self evaluation tend to have low frequency of eating out and low consumption of commercial snacks. 6) Many subjects express that strong will to substantiate food consumption is necessary for betterment of life, which shows that young people have knowledge of health and nutrition, and are conscious that health is important, but many are not practicing what they think.
