Abstract;Binding constants and thermodynamic parameters for 1:1 complexation of methylated .BETA.-cyclodextrins with 5,10,15-tris(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-20-phenylporphyrin have been determined in aqueous solution by means of titration microcalorimetry. The stability of a complex increases in the order .BETA.-CD (K=1.2*103 M-1)<2,6-DMe-.BETA.-CD (1.2*104 M-1)<TMe-.BETA.-CD (6.9*106 M-1)<2,3-DMe-.BETA.-CD (8.5*106 M-1). The formation of the methylatyed .BETA.-CD complexes are accompanied by the large and negative .DELTA.S and .DELTA.H. These thermodynamic parameters can be interpreted in terms of the strong van der Waals interactions between meso-arylporphyrins and methylatyed .BETA.-CDs. (author abst.)
