Abstract; This article introduces technologies needed for spoken dialog services that can process the spontaneous utterances heard in everyday life. Up to now, most speech services have been based upon isolated word speech recognition. However, we need to be able to process common spontaneous utterances including fillers and hesitations to achieve really usable interfaces. Our new speech recognition technology, VoiceRex2003, can handle such utterances. We applied it to a cyber attendant system, CASYS2003, which offers multi-modal services. (author abst.)
