Abstract;Aluminum alloy substrates are widely used in hard disk drives; approximately 400 million aluminum blanks are shipped annually. Kobe Steel, which has an integrated production line from aluminum alloy to aluminum substrate, has a 50-60% share of the aluminum blank production market and has contributed significantly to the development of high performance hard disk drives. In this report, development and process technology of aluminum alloy substrates are described. (author abst.)
