| Abstract;Environmental protection has become an important global concern in recent years. The use of chemical substances, as part of environmental awareness, has attracted considerable public attention. Consumerelectronics makers, major consumers of coated steel sheets, have begun to curtail the use of some substances. One of these chemicals, hexavalent chromium, which gives excellent corrosion resistance to steels, has long been viewed as an indispensable substance for the practical application of steel sheet. Kobe Steel has developed a chromate-free pre-painted steel sheet: KOBE PRE-COAT GX. This article describes the design concepts involved in the coating of this steel. (author abst.) |
