Abstract;Porous aluminum has an extremely low density and novel physical, mechanical, acoustic properties. It has now taken attention as an excellent energy absorber. Its energy absorption properties were improved by controlling the porosity size distribution. It was found that a composite made from aluminum section and porous aluminum had a superimposing effect in terms of energy absorption properties. The same result was found through FEM analysis. The collapse behavior of porous aluminum for compression testing was investigated with in-situ X-ray radiography. (author abst.)
