Abstract;A 63-year-old female diagnosed with uveitis of unknown origin in her right eye was treated with systemic steroid therapy. After suffering herpes zoster-associated dermatitis of her left thigh, she showed iridocyclitis and retinal exudates with vasculitis in her left eye. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of aqueous humor from her left anterior chamber disclosed varicella-zoster virus (VZV). She was diagnosed with acute retinal necrosis of the left eye. After secondary retinal tear and retinal detachment had appeared despite anti-viral therapy, vitrectomy and silicone oil injection were performed. This is a case of acute retinal necrosis probably associated with immunosuppression by systemic steroid therapy. (author abst.)
