Abstract; The aim of this study was to compare ocular discomfort (irritative sensation and blurred vision) after instillation of brinzolamide 1% and dorzolamide 1% in 24 healthy Japanese volunteers. Immediately and at 3 and 5 minutes after instillation of brinzolamide 1% and dorzolamide 1%, each to one eye of each subject, irritative sensation and blurred vision were assessed at 5 levels. The eye to which brinzolamide or dorzolamide was administered first was randomly decided. The irritative sensation was significantly higher for dorzolamide than for brinzolamide. Vision blurring seemed higher for brinzolamide than for dorzolamide, but the difference was not statistically significant. Irritative sensation and blurred vision were attenuated with the passage of time and disappeared completely in 5 minutes. (author abst.)
