Abstract; To investigate the pathogenesis of normal-tension glaucoma (NTG), we evaluated arterial sclerosis grade in 56 NTG patients, using form PWV/ABI. Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index (ABI) and Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) served as the indices of arterial sclerosis. Most patients showed ABI in the normal range, but 5 (9%) showed relatively low ABI (<1.01). On the other hand, 39 patients (70%) showed higher PWV than was seen in age-matched normal controls. These results suggest that arterial sclerosis may contribute to the pathogenesis of NTG, although further investigation is needed to elucidate the relation between systemic arterial sclerosis and ocular blood flow in NTG patients.
