Abstract;Recently, sunscreens have been made tremendous progress in feeling when applied on skin, transparency, and UV-protection efficiency. The ultra-fine powders enabled us to develop the sunscreens that have high transparency and UV-protection efficiency. Furthermore, good feelings when applied on skin can be achieved by using effective ultra-fine powders, because it is not necessary to add excess ultraviolet filters. As ultra-fine powders, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide with 10-30nm diameters are most commonly used. It is very important to control the surface properties and the dispersibility of these ultra-fine powders in order to get expected efficiency. In this paper, we discuss the conventional techniques of the preparation of ultra-fine powders, the control of surface properties and the dispersibility of the ultra-fine powders, and the merit of the ultra-fine powders for the application to the sunscreens. We worked on composite of the ultra-fine powders with silica or polymer to control the dispersibility of fine particles. And then, we have also developed the ultra-fine powders dispersed in silicone oil. The fine particles that are evenly dispersed enabled us to obtain the sunscreens that have high transparency and UV-protection efficiency. More over, we also studied the single-nano particles in either water or oil by dispersibility control technique. (author abst.)
