| Abstract;Portability of fixed telephone numbers has been already introduced in Japan, while mobile telephone number portability (MNP) is being adopted by various countries since Singapore introduced it in 1997. Among EU countries, it was UK that first introduced MNP in January 1997. This article shows the investigation results about the course of introducing the MNP into UK and a brief outline of its system. During past five years since UK's introduction of MNP, Oftel (Office of Telecommunication), which was succeeded by Ofcom (Office of Communication), repeated user surveys and continued gradual modification and improvement of the system, while regulations were revised. |
