Abstract;Though DS-CDMA and MC-CDMA are used as practical modulations for IMT-2000, TD-CDMA is currently interested. NTT Communications Corporation is carrying on with experiments of public multimedia wireless LAN services using TD-CDMA. This article describes technical features of TD-CDMA, that is, TD-CDMA makes bi-directional transmission for up- and downlink on a single carrier frequency, can allocate up- and downlink rate freely, is suitable for internet access, provide possibility of easy controlling because of using the same frequency band for both up- and downlink, and is robust against multipath effect. TD-CDMA will be continued to develop as a basic technology in order to advance ubiquitous network management, one of the important fields of NTT.
