Abstract; The comorbidities of psychiatric developmental disorders in a population of children with Down's syndrome were identified. Forty-three children (21 boys, 22 girls) ages 3 to 16 were studied. Based on DSM-IV criteria, 5 had autistic disorder and, ADHD. The language of a 12-year-old boy suddenly deteriorated, and one girl had consultations with a doctor and a clinical psychologist about refusal to attend school. Progress in the treatment of congenital heart disease has improved the physical health of Down's syndrome children but insufficient attention has been paid to their mental health. Awareness is needed of the possibility of psychiatric disorders, such as autism and ADHD, being present from infancy. (author abst.)
