| Abstract;Dissociative (conversion) disorders include amnesia, convulsion, and sensory loss due to psychogenesis. Patients sometimes deny their psychogenesis and it may be very difficult for them to overcome such disorders. Case study: The patient was an 18-years old girl who suffered from dissociative convulsion disorder. She had a regressive and immature personality. It was very difficult for her to deal with her psychogenesis by means of oral discussion. We suspected that shi had had a traumatic childhood experience based on her history of growing up, but she hesitated to talk about her childhood. Her phobic anxiety toward other people produced her dissociative symptoms. We therefore used behavior therapy to develop a range of coping skills with which to manage and overcome anxiety. As these skills developed, her dissociative symptoms lessened. Conclusion: Behavior therapy is a useful approach for treating dissociative (conversion) disorder. (author abst.) |
